PRESS: Gazprom to mothball gear at Portovaya, Slavyanskaya stations

MOSCOW, Nov 28 (PRIME) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom plans to deactivate the pumping equipment at the Portovaya and Slavyanskaya gas compressor stations that pumped natural gas into the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, but it will not relocate it, Kommersant business daily reported on Monday quoting sources.

Threads of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipeline were blown up in a terrorist attack on September 26.

Kommersant said quoting sources familiar with Gazprom’s plans the company will be capable of relaunching the equipment swiftly if necessary.

Both pipelines were not pumping any commercial gas to Europe on the day of the sabotage.

Pumping through the Nord Stream was suspended on August 31 as the Siemens turbines malfunctioned at the Portovaya station because of a lack of maintenance caused by the Western sanctions, while commercial pumping through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline had not even started in spite of the fact that the pipeline had been finished in September 2021, Kommersant reported.
